SMART THERMOSTAT

Help HOLD DOWN power costs for all members and make a positive impact on the environment. Join the Smart Thermostat Program today and help Beat the Peak!

Your cooperative will sync with your thermostat to make small automatic adjustments based on peak times. You’ll stay comfortable, while helping hold down power costs.

Before a peak occurs, your local cooperative will pre-cool or pre-heat your house, so you stay comfy while your HVAC system saves energy.

  1. How do we control?
    1. In the winter, your thermostat will pre-heat +2 degrees in the first hour and is then lowered by -4 degrees over the following 3-hour peak demand period.
    2. In the summer, your thermostat will pre-cool -2 degrees in the first hour and is then increased by +4 degrees over the following 3-hour peak demand period.
  2. Why do we control?
    1. By adjusting your thermostat during peak demand periods, we are able to lower your cooperative’s peak demand.
    2. Lowering peak demand lessens the need for your cooperative to build costly generation.
  3. When do we control?
    1. In the winter, peak demand periods typically occur between 6-9 a.m.
    2. In the summer, peak demand periods typically occur between 3-7 p.m.
  4. How often do we control?
    1. On average, your thermostat will be controlled 4-5 times each month.
  5. What if I don’t want to participate today?
    1. You can opt-out of peak demand events by clicking the opt-out button on your thermostat app or on the thermostat.
    2. Please refer to your local cooperative’s program details for how many annual events you must participate in to qualify for the annual rebate from your cooperative.
